The US Firm's Driverless Cabs Set to Arrive London Streets Starting 2026.

American firm Waymo has revealed that its driverless taxis will be operational for use on London's thoroughfares starting next year.

UK Capital Named as First European City for Autonomous Cab Service.

The UK capital will be established as the inaugural European city to introduce an autonomous taxi service, comparable with those currently familiar in multiple US cities and four other American cities employing Waymo's innovative technology.

Initial Trials to Start with Human Specialists.

Waymo announced that its fleet are now traveling to London and will start driving on the capital's roads in the near future with experienced operators supervising the vehicles.

The company – originally formed as a derivative from Google's self-driving car initiative and belonging to the Alphabet family – stated it would scale up services and collaborate with the UK transport authorities and Transport for London to secure the necessary licenses to provide totally self-driving rides by 2026.

Growing Presence in Autonomous Mobility Across London.

Additional organizations, including Uber and the British tech company Wayve, have also announced their own plans to pilot self-driving vehicles in the capital next year.

This comes after the government officials confirming it would speed up guidelines enabling real-world tests to proceed before legislation enabling driverless transport becomes law in full.

A broader deployment of self-driving cabs is projected in the UK after the Automated Vehicles Act fully takes effect in late 2027.

Waymo presently has links to the UK after establishing its pioneering European research base in Oxford in 2019.

It is additionally launching operations in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover electric vehicles, marking its second present project beyond the US.
